Hedge your bets, where will the train stop?

Have you noticed how people congregate on train platforms. They space themselves out along the platform to match where doors will stop or at least where they think they will stop.
How predictable and in love with a routine we humans are!
Some people must have been catching the same train a very long time; possibly for too long a time. They never get it wrong and always stand in the exact same spot morning and night for their train. Like they have counted the tiles and safety nodules to ensure an exact hit.

I wonder if they keep a journal or tell their partner or mates about how often they are bang on. "Hey John I again stood right where the doors opened. You know what I do ... Bla bla sip.... And you know that ... Bla sip sip....like 60 out of the last 63 ... Sip sip sip". Wouldn't that conversation drive you to drink! Even a teetotaller would fall off the waggon if their mate recited how they get it right and their percentage correct door landings they had over last year.
I hedge my bets when it comes to door positioning. Surely every driver is different so where the last train stopped is not a guarantee for the next train that pulls in. I assume there is about a meter in the possible variance.
I started to become that aware of the train positioning on a platform I'd nearly snarl at the driver when they stop the doors outside my easy access - "what are you doing driver? I stand here because you stop the door here - remember!? Don't do that again!".
After I realised I need a life I decided to have a bit of fun with other commuters. If I was the first person at the platform I'd stand where I knew the doors don't stop and watch people crowd around me. Thinking I knew what I was doing - I knew the door positions. Funnier was watching people scramble to the doors realising I was not right at all. They even seemed annoyed. Not as annoyed as when I didn't get on the train - especially if by standing next to me they didn't squeeze on and had to wait for the next train.
I know this still means I need to get a life but at least I got a giggle in the morning before my work day starts!
Let's be honest, we get a slight rise when we get the door landing position, We click our heels (quietly) when we chance the doors, get it spot and watch the person who gets it right every time get it wrong that one time.
That small win in the morning can set you up for a sensational day all round!
