A pig is not a pet

I recently had a conversation with my boyfriend’s mother who told me how she saw the cutest piglets on tv, and they were someone's pet. I questioned, "did you mean a zookeeper of some kind was looking after these abandoned animals', "no, they are bred to be pets, isn’t that great”!
What has happened? When did we invite our food to "come dine with me?" Can this couple ever eat crackle again knowing they could be sizzling babe's cousin? Or maybe they are vegans, which would explain the new pet decision.
For me, I think any animal I eat should not be a pet. I eat beef, chicken, lamb, pork, salmon and other crustaceans of the sea. Non do I keep as pets. Never on the menu is dog or cat (that I know of) and therefore I can have them as pets.
Simple principles, I think. If you are vegan or a vegetarian then you can have any animal as a pet. You are not going to eat them.

I can’t imagine a pig would make a very good pet. I can't imagine them being obedient or clean, and their skin is tough, not soft. They'd become too heavy to nurse, and probably are not the best for those who like to walk their pet. Also, their grunting around the house and yard would get tiring. But on a positive slant, it could act as a good source of blame should you need to grunt at your outlaws, or your husband, or cover some inappropriate odours!
I wonder whether a pig would want to be a pet. A pig likes rolling around in the mud and being around other pigs on large farms in rural areas. A pig in a suburban house with no mud, no farm, no friends would not seem like the better option. Also, when the pig grows up and it is no longer 'cute' – if it ever was - no one else will want it, except for a pig farmer.
Also, anytime the family had a BBQ they would have to hide the pig to make sure a hungry uncle doesn’t shove a stick up its ass and an apple in its mouth and start rotating 'peter' above the grill plate!
Nope, a pig should not be a pet - that's my two cents on the matter!
